The Financial Services Assessment project is designed to examine the impact of financial services on the lives of poor people in developing countries. This project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is committed to building a deep base of knowledge in the microfinance field. Using a mixed methods approach, studies were conducted in India, Kenya, Pakistan, Peru, and Malawi to assess the outreach, welfare outcomes and impacts of financial services. Results are summarized in a series of papers and research briefs produced under the project.
